ATI DVD player issues

Has anyone ever had an issue with the DVD player that comes with the ATI software? When I run a PC check with their Multimedia Center Config, it tells me that I have Direct X 9.0 installation issues. But when I check dxdiag, everything is OK. The problem is that the whole system freezes when I run a DVD. This is the 9600SE. The DVD ROM is Toshiba SD-R1202. I've reinstalled the video drivers and DirectX 9.0 many times. Thanks for any input.
