I've always had trouble installing new ati decoders. the order is as follows ( I installed the graphic dirver first and the daoc second):

1) click on the installation pack
2) prompts for dvd authentification, and it authenticates my ati dvd
3) asks for site of decoder package to be installed
then...
it goes through endless loop of steps 2 and 3 but never installs the product...
i can install the file off the cd but its an old version.

is this the installation sequence people are using?

thanks

I'm not in front of my PC, so......When it verifies the CD, it allows you to download the decoders. Instead of downloading them again, just point it to the folder containing the file you downloaded previous and you should see "INSTALL" when it finds the decoder file. Otherwise, you just keep downloading the same file over and over again.

Hi there,

I have had the exact same problem - until now. I figured it out. It is little confusing. BAD ATI, BAD!!
Here's what I did.

1. Install display drivers.
2. Install dao-mdac (also Windows Media Encoder if you don't have it already)
3. (now it gets tricky) Click (unpack) "mmc-9-02-0-0.exe" DO NOT INSTALL YET. It tells you it doesn't have decoder so it won't install DVD. Cancel the installation.
4. Click on "atiCDwiz ... exe"
5. When it authenticates your copy select "Download Decoder from ATI"
6. Click the "(something) Download" button. "Save As" window appears. Find setup.exe from mmc-9-02-0-0.exe. Its default location is C:\ATI\SUPPORT\mmc-9-02-0-0. Select it.
7. Click "Install"
8. Than it FINALLY downloads decoder from ati and installs it.
9. Install MMC (no error messages should appear because dvd decoder has been installed)

Now I have to ask: "Why ATI, why is it so messed up?!" and also when I write to ATI support they only send me a bulk, probably automatic reply with links to hundreds of FAQ and forums. I gave hundreds of dollars for my card, therefore I expect much better support than that. Thumbs down for this one...

yea the decoder itself is about 5mb. the cdwiz file isn't the decoder. it must be downloaded. once downloaded, burn it for future use so you don't have to download again.

oops, I answered my own question

thanks Barondro, as you can see I figured it out! :)
