ATI Driver Question - Unified??

In the past, ATI had one driver for most of their video cards. Now, they ask what card you have before you download. Are there now different drivers for most cards or is it all the same driver and they are just collecting data on which cards people are using?

Most of the newer cards use the same "unified" driver package. Some older cards are not supported in the latest driver release(s)
