ATI driver problem?

I'm starting to regret buying a 9800 Pro to replace my FX5900. I can't get AA to work, and stay working. It seems like a day or two after I install new drivers, AA stops working completely. I have no clue why... I'll start a game and notice it's not working and think to myself "I wonder if I turned it off by mistake." So I go check and nope... it's still forced to 4X in the drivers. So I think maybe if I set it to application preference and set AA in the game it'll work... nope.

The only way I've been able to get it to work again is to reinstall the drivers, but then in a day or two it quits again. WTF?! Does anyone else have this problem? Is it a known issue? I'm pretty disappointed with this dumb card now that I've had it for a while.

I have... at least 5 times over the past 6 months or so (or whenever I got it, I can't remember exactly).

You aren't using any third party tweakers are you? Also keep in mind that ATi's AA doesn't work in 16 bit games so if you're accidently running them at that setting it won't work. Always run under 32 bit desktop and games (don't use "default").

I've tried CAT 4.6, CAT 4.7, and CAT 4.8 drivers and the same thing happens with all of them. It occurs in all games... MS Flight 2004, SoF2, Counter-Strike Source Beta, Counter-Strike, Horizons, Far Cry, Doom 3, etc. etc.

The only "3rd party tweaker" I was using was RadClocker but I have removed that to eliminate it as a possible cause. The oldest game I play is Counter-Strike so I don't think it's a problem with old 16-bit software.
