ATi Demos v1.1 Error...

Alright I just got my retail Radeon 8500 and wanna know what the heck is going on with the ATI demos. Here is the error that I'm getting...

<< [N:\1Sushi\RunTime\WinD3D\AwFn.cpp] (line 386): D3DAw Error: AwInitWindow - Unable to find an acceptable depth/stencil format
[N:\1Sushi\RunTime\Main.cpp] (line 431): AwInitWindow returned FALSE! Unable to create window! Quitting!
>>

I have tried both the Rachel Demo and the Nature Demo. I got fed up after that and decided to post here instead. I have my zbuffer depth at "16,24,32 and 8bit Stencil" and the 6025 Drivers.

Here is my computer system...

AMD TBird 1.2
Thermaltake Volcano II w/ AS3
ECS K7S5A
256 MB PC-133
40 GB Maxtor ATA/133 7200 rpm
Lucent v.92 Winmodem
Optorite 16/12/40 CDRW
Samsung 12x DVD
AC '97 Audio
Radeon 8500 275/275
Futura 17" Flat Face (.20mm)
300w PSU

Any ideas.. would be helpful! Thanks...!

Try going into the registry and checking what you have your ZFormat set to.

I just launched the Nature demo, then went in my registry and checked the ZFormat - it is set to 7 for me. I know that 3DMark2001SE's Advanced Pixel Shader test will screw up if you don't put the ZFormats value to either 7 or 15, so maybe the ATi demos are similar. I'm using the 9016 drivers, btw.

Before posting this, I also decided to change my z-buffer settings and try it again; it worked fine (set to 11 this time), so I'm not sure what your problem could be. Maybe it's a Dx8 problem, or maybe a corrupted file in the demo you got. Haven't tried the Rachel demo, I've got Treasure Chest, Nature, Dolphin, and Island 1, 2, and 3. They all work fine for me.
