I found this, thought it might be of some interest...

I don't speak Russian, so I have no idea if these are legit, nor what the article is saying. They could be ATi's answer to SLI or it could just be a picture of two X850 XT's in a dual PCIe x16 board. However, if they are legit they seem to suggest that the master/slave care speculation is false.

Translation:

"Yesterday we have already described some technical aspects relating to how the CrossFire technology works, the announcement of which should be within 1 week or less. Since events relating to the launch and the announcement of this technology have commenced within many regions already, some of our colleagues have been able to uncover some information and compile it together. (rough translation)

For example, one French site published the CrossFire logo:

(see 1st picture)

Well, in my eyes, very conservative, yet stylish. The word "fire" stands out on red background, as if an invisible hand is giving you a hint of the CrossFire factor (russian symbolism is hard to translate correctly). Notice, the CrossFire label will be given to the Master-cards (videocards), and also chipsets that support such technology (ie. ATI RD400 and RD480). For example, RD400 is going to be called Radeon Xpress 200 CrossFire Edition."

(see 2nd picture)

We were also able to obtain pictures of a system containing 2 Radeon 850xt class videocards, which did take advantage of Crossfire. Since both cards are equipped with a 2-slot cooling solution, they end up taking 4 system slots in the case. However, we should mention then that Radeon X800 series cards will take up less space (ie. expansion slots, since they are single slotted).

(see 3rd pic)

On the next (pic 3) picture you can see the very port/connector (bottom right) used for the 2nd card (in this case Master card) to exchange/send data with the card above (slave) (this answers Nitromullet's question). As you can see, as a result, this videocard will have only 1 DVI output. With a given adapter, you will still be able to output video onto 2 monitors. We believe that running 4 monitors at the same time is possible using this type of setup. Similar types of adapters (splitters) are already used for Matrox videocards.

The price of the master-card will not differ from analagous "slave" videocards (the ones you can currently buy). For instance, Radeon X850XT CrossFire Edition will cost $549, Radeon X800 CrossFire Edition, $299. It is rumoured that a budget videocard (a modified version) will be released under the name of Radeon X800 CE with 128MB of RAM for $249. Note that the regular Radeon X800 128MB will cost an estimated $199.

The average level of performance increase from using the CrossFire is expected to be at 60%. Recall that Nvidia promised 90% performance increase when they first announced SLI. How valid and accurate these performance promises are remains to be seen, with exact figures to follow sometime next week, or maybe even earlier."

Sorry if the translation was rough. I added a couple things in brackets.
