I've had a ton of problems with ATI Drivers. I installed the new 4.1 catalyst. With all the problems IN GAME that I have had with the 3.8+ drivers, now I have Corrupt Images on my Desktop. I rolled back to 3.10 and still problems. Do I have a Virus; do viruses do these things happen with viruses? I did a MacAfee search with definitions updated... YAH I FOUND A TROJAN. It said they have been deleted; now I?ve had problems on other people?s computers with TOTALY getting rid of viruses. Americas Army Crashes on me since 4.1, and Call of duty only works on 3.7. Also before 4.1 when running Wolf ET when returning to desktop the colors where distorted. I didn?t leave 4.1 on long enough to know if that was still a problem. Let me know what you guys think... If I can?t get this resolved I?m going to Reformat and Go back to the 3.10 Crapalyst drivers. PLEASE I will have to do SO MUCH work to reformat and use a bunch discs to burn all the files I need, if you know away around this please let me know!

I think my 15 year old nephew got the viruses going to porn sites.
Dirty minds= Dirty Hard drives I tried to tell him!
Its his computer, it just kicks my computers butt so I use it to.

I don't think you really need to reformat to roll back drivers. Just use something like Driver Cleaner 2 to completely get rid of them, then reinstall whatever version you need. However, since you were infected with a virus, a reinstall might not be a bad idea.

PLEASE I will have to do SO MUCH work to reformat and use a bunch discs to burn all the files I need, if you know away around this please let me know!

The next time you reinstall, partition the disk so that you have a small OS partition as your C drive, and then make the rest of the disk a storage partition for data and programs. Then you can just reformat the OS without moving the data.

And get some friggin' AV software!

Slight correction. Get some GOOD AV software. Get some CyberNanny software for your 15 year old nephew too ;)

I've rolled them back but sitll have the problems. Im all the way back to 3.8 now i think it fixed it. But if i still have problems I'm going to reformat. I hope the 4.1 didnt mess up the hardware itself.

Ive Used Norton and MacAfee.. Norton found nothing MacAfee found 25 infected files. Both where Trial ware. Do you think MacAfee said 25 to try and get me to buy? Is there another AV I should know about?

Well, Driver Cleaner 2.7 used according to instructions a ray of light appeared and the problem seamed to be fine. Untill 15 minutes later the icons are all distorted again. Looks like a reformat is inevitable. Thats the last total test to see if its the Software or Hardware. Anymore suggestions? I know i cant be the only one irritated by ATI's Drivers.

I never have driver problems with ATI. When ever I update the driver I uninstall them and the control panel in Add/remove then go to safe mod and run driver cleaner on all ATI files and then restart and install the new ones I do this every time I update it works every time.

The minute a virus has come into play, you can no longer be sure of anything working correctly on you computer, and you certainly can NOT blame ATI's drivers. Viruses do many things, and sometimes the only way to truly get rid of them is reformat. After the re-format, THEN if drivers create a problem, you can complain.

Unless you had your AV software on the PC before you got infected then chances are that it will not be able to detect it. Most of the newer viruses will be able to hide themselves from the install of the AV software as suggested above.

Hmm, check the fan on the video card, it may be dead and/or your vidcard maybe overheating.

I hate the newer ATI drivers. All the releases over 3.7 make me get the black screen on boot sometimes...

I get screen corruption on and off with the CAT drivers and my ATi 9800Pro. I give up trying to fix the problem and just live with it because the screen corruption is brief and then everything goes back to normal. No viruses either ;)

Sorry that didn't help you much, but at least you know you?re not the only one with that problem :)

Yep, running strong on my Mobility 9600, and didn't even have issues with my old Radeon 7200.

Seconded. Also, is there a chance your nephew is overclocking the video card? That could be the cause of the problem.

4.1s are workin great for me. bf42, cod, gta3, gta:vc, yahtzee, sof2, nfsu, mohaa (i think that's all the games i'm playin right now) all work fine. no desktop corruption. sounds like you have issues elsewhere. if not the video card fan then maybe a system fan.
