It appears there will be no Catalyst 5.13 with Control Panel (instead of Control Center.)

5.12 wasn't listed either but links people posted on the internet pointed to ATI Customer Care > Drivers and Software > Windows XP > FireMV > FireMV 2200 > Previous Drivers and Software >

where Catalyst 5.12 Display Driver with Control Panel (instead of Control Center) was "hidden" by ATi.

Before I knew this, I installed the Control Center version for the first time to find out that for some of us with AGP cards:

1. So many resources were being used that my system was noticeably slower. This was confirmed when Catalyst Control Panel version was installed instead of the Control Center: the system became noticeably faster.

2. Control Center could not start if cli.exe was not allowed to access the internet (!) What happens if you lose your internet connection?

3. If ATICCC is disabled from starting every time you boot up "to start it only when you need it," you need to double click on cli.exe (C:\Program Files\ATI Technologies\ATI.ACE\cli.exe) FIRST,
then let it load and access the Internet to be able to THEN start the Control Center.

What effects/improvements/setbacks do these latest drivers have on "older" cards such as the 9600XT?

For example, Catalyst 5.6 and later appeared to introduce a bug where many .wmv files froze after the initial frame. The solution was to:
Right click on empty space on desktop > Properties > Settings TAB >
> Advanced > Options TAB (second tab from top left) > UNCHECK: "WMV Acceleration" > Apply > OK

or

Catalyst Control Center > View > Advanced View > under Graphic settings > Video > All Settings > (scroll down)
UNCHECK: "Windows Media Video Acceleration"

So 5.12 appears to be the end of the road for the Control Panel Catalysts...

People using newer PCIe systems, what are your experiences with Control Panel vs. Control Center?

i don't install the catalyst control center (CCC) at all. people recommend ati tools if you want some control over your ati video card.

You mean ATI Tray tools? How would you enable/disable "Windows Media Video Acceleration" using Tray tools though, you need either Control Panel or CCC for that, don't you?

No, there's an option for WMV acceleration in ATT as well as numerous other options not available in the classic control panel. To be honest, I hate CCC and will avoid it as long as possible. What I did was uninstall the 5.12 driver only, but kept the control panel installed. Then I installed the 5.13 driver without the CCC. It works, so give it a try if you want.
