Hi guys,
I just bought a Hercules 3D Prophet 8500 128MB with the Radeon 8500 GPU, and this replaces the Radeon VE 32MB on my HTPC. I had an old Catalyst installed on the HTPC previously(I think it was 2.5 IIRC) as well as the Control Panel. I uninstalled everything using the standard uninstall program, except for the Control Panel. I was just starting to do that when the fuse on my house tripped(talk about bad luck) and the entire system just went down. I fixed the fuse problem and booted the system up again, and under "Add/Remove Programs" the ATI Control Panel was still there, but I couldn't uninstall it there. Clicking on the uninstall button would do nothing.
So, what I did was manually delete the ATI Control Panel directory tree, as well as the Start Menu folder, and all instances of "ATI Control Panel" in the windows registry. After all that, it didn't show up under "Add/Remove Programs" no more, so I thought all was fine...
I went on to remove my Radeon VE, plugin my Radeon 8500, and installed the Catalyst 3.1 drivers successfully, however I'm unable to install the Control Panel. After extracting the files, the setup program runs, and then extracts more files. At about 40% of the extraction, the following error appears:
Error extracting support files:
The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect.
I tried rebooting and it still gives me the same error. I suspect its because I didn't properly uninstall the previous control panel, so my question is how do I uninstall it completely without the uninstall program now?
btw I'm using Win2K Pro SP3...
Thanks!
