Does ATI still have the practice of running their oem cards at a reduced clock speed? Is the 9700 Pro OEM slower than the 9700 Pro retail? Is it enough to even matter?

Thanks.

im not sure but, normally, if the clock range is 50 or less mhz up or down, then you cant even tell unless you have a little frame counter on.

From what I have read my 9700Pro retail in an ATI box is supposed to be:325mhz core and 310mhz memory but mine according to the Rage3d overclocking tweaker is:275mhz core and 270mhz memory.Has anybody noticed this on thiers? :|:|:|:|:|

I haven't heard anything indicating the 9000/9500/9700 OEM cards being clocked lower than stock (Challenger, sounds like someone returned a different card in your box). You still have to be careful about 8500/9100's, though.

BTW, I think the Powercolor 9700NP is $200 @ NewEgg. If they have a good warranty record, then that's a great deal.

I don't think so but sometimes the OEM's put higher quality RAM on it to please the overclocking community, especially Sapphire.

RMA it.
275/270 is the stock speeds of a 9700 non-Pro.
Officially ATi guarantees all 9700Pro products to be clocked at 325/310 regardless of OEM/Retail status.
