Besides the obvious bias which is expected in an editorial. He does hit on a few issues with ATI. Basically they have been resting on their laurels.

And in all reality they really werent being pushed by nvidia. It is obvious the 6800 series caught them off guard big time. I have a feeling they really believed the 6800NU was going to be Nvidias next generation card. And if you look at it the X800 Pro was going to compete against it. But when the 6800 GT and Ultra were announced with 16 pipes it sent ATI into a tizzy. At first I never would have expected either company to take until August for anykind of reasonable supply to show up. But their 16 pipe card is basically non-existent. I cant even blame the lack of GDDR-3 on this.

I think what happened was they probably designed a 16 pipe card but not for the clock speeds advertised. They probably figured the X800 Pro will suffice until the fall refresh and then they could finish Nvidia off and get higher yields. Instead they had to rush the thing out unprepared and thus have terrible yields on high speed 16 pipe parts.

GDDR-3 shortages alone cant account for the utter lack of X800XT-PEs in the channel.

ATI's lack of foresight - the same shortsightedness nVidia had with nv30 - is to blame. ;)

And ATI's "marketing" is pure FUD and BS now. :p

No... the x800 XTPE gets 0, yes ZERO, FPS @ 1600x1200 4XAA 8XAF in Far Cry SM3.0. Why? Because ATi cards don't support SM3.0 :D

Glad I used the bathroom recently. Would have had to go home early sitting on a plastic bag otherwise. Oh, that hurt. ;)

Son, I'm here to make a plea on behalf of the rest of the forum.

The  smiley is now available only in quantities very similar to the X800XTPE. The :p smiley is struggling to market much like the 6800GT. People are despairing as their posts are being delayed again and again due to lack of supply.

Could you please back off on them a bit until they're available wide?

There's flaming going on here?

Actually, I've found this to be pretty good discourse. Points, counter points, a lot of good perspectives are changing hands in here...

EDIT: Wait, that's the SLI thread. This one is all ribbing. Disregard above.

I don't find the smiley itself annoying... I just fine the smiley on one line, with 2 blank lines, and a smiley on another line, 2 more blank lines, 7 words, two blank lines, more smilies, etc. to be a bit annoying.

With all the different emoticons you use, I sometimes feel like I'm talking to someone who twitches a lot (especially with the animated ones). Your angle is often hard to judge... For instance, you'll say that Doom3 sucks and follow it with a smiley face... Does Doom3 sucking make you happy or are you smiling for another reason?

I believe that's just a mistake on Anand's graph, or it was just not elaborated enough. If you search all the other sites covering this SM2.0 vs SM2.0b vs SM3.0, you'll see it mentioned. None of the current ATI cards support SM3.0 right now, which is why ATI is trumping the virtues of SM2.0b, which in reality is actually a pretty good way to go, but doubtful anyone is going to pick up on it since SM3.0 appears to be next evolutionary step.

UPDATE: Oh I just noticed the date of the article is actually BEFORE it was realized that support for SM2.0b was also implemented with the FarCry 1.2 patch.
