ATI catalyst killing mouse?

I formatted and installed a new OS SATA drive yesterday. Mouse worked fine until I downloaded the newest ATI catalyst driver. Upon reboot the USB mouse would do its initialization during the splash screen then go dead. I did the system restore point before the driver and got my mouse back. I tried again with the same result. This happened on another installation too in the recent past. Has anyone experienced this weird problem? I wouldn't have thought a video driver would kill USB devices.

Anyone ever have this problem? I would like to use up to date drivers for my video card. I'm running off of the drivers that came on the cd with the video card.

What mouse do you have? I've never heard of video card drivers interfering wth a mouse, but that doesn't mean its impossible.
