I know that I've seen these on the forums before, but my search is not giving me ATI specific driver removers. There are a couple that are supposed to be really good. What's the best app to use to remoce all aspects of ATI drivers?

First uninstall in Add/Remove Programs

Then use this to remove the traces left behind: http://drivercleaner.net/

It's quite good but me being fussy I go through the system by hand afterwards, just me being fussy :).

ps: make sure you remove the C:\ATI Directory so Windows won't try and install them from there.

?This tool is used to delete all ATI related files from your system. This includes ATI CATALYST software suite and any ATI Demos.?

Happy trailz,

I think its been included with the Catalyst drivers since Cat 3.8, just navigate to Control Panel> add or remove programs and you should see it in the list. So not too hard, you should be there to start your uninstallation anyway.

I generally use add/remove programs. ATi's Catalyst uninstaller utility is useless - not only does it not do anything that add/remove programs doesn't do but it also removes ATi Tray Tools even though nobody asked it to.

The only way to remove everything is to delete the registry keys yourself. I'm not sure how much Driver Cleaner would do of that.

"ATI - Software Uninstall Utility" from Add/Remove Proggies is simply a link to aticimun.exe which is indeed included and installed with every driver pack and may be run from any instance (such as after expanding a new pack). I find it does uninstall everyfing and that's the way I like it. However it would be annoying if you wanted to keep demos installed. It does cause ATT's uninstaller to begin but that is easily cancelled.

At least it is available and does the job. The fact that proggies like Driver Cleaner exist is a testament to other companies' shoddy uninstallers.

That's a very naïve comment. If you think ATi's uninstaller removes everything or is any better than nVidia's then check the registry afterward and you'll see their keys sitting there as if nothing had happened.

Of course nVidia's uninstaller is just as poor which is probably why Driver Cleaner exists.

To me a vendor uninstaller should remove everything (i.e. your system should be exactly as it was before you first inserted the card into your motherboard).

the driver remover has been in the control panel for ages. Good to know it works now.

Thanks everyone.

Nothing functional remains. Some companies cause problems by failing to remove drivers. As far as I recall DC came into being when gamers switched from 3dfx to nvidia en masse but we still hear about problems when likewise switching from nvidia to ati.

Oh, and ATI's Uninstall Utility remains an option. The user can happily run the seperate CP and driver uninstalls and keep their demos.

I'm not saying ATI is all that and a bag of pork flavoured crisps but I think their uninstaller is relatively good.

Even if you could remove the registry keys (nearly impossible from my experience) you still have to remove the driver files from the driver.cab and service pack cabs, or you'll get a driver install on a reboot. Driver Cleaner includes cab cleaner which removes the drivers and rebuilds the cabs to prevent that from happening. I suppose you could do that by hand also, but I find DC does it better and far faster than I can, if it doesn't get everthing, it seems to get everything you need to get.
