ATI Catalyst Driver problem

Does anyone have a problem with the catalyst drivers? I runn the software uninstall utility and it said that it cannot be initialized, but it still continues to uninstall the driver. Then after I restart the comp it, the ATI folder is still in C Drive, forcing me to manually delete it before I run Driver Cleaner. I was hoping they'd fix this, but I guess they never bothered to fix it since the driver still uninstalls.

Finally, ATI Tool can't detect the catalyst version for some reason. The catalyst version is unknown.

I'm on Catalyst 7.7 right now. The software uninstall utility problem happens with previous Catalyst versions as well.

Maybe some part of .NET or the registry is screwed up on your machine, or your OC is unstable?

I bet if you could do a clean installation of your OS on a fresh partition, this problem wouldn't occur.

I've done 3 clean installs already, and the same thing always happens to me. I have all of the .NET frameworks installed, from 1.1 to 3.0. I'll reinstall the Catalyst Drivers tonight and see exactly what the software uninstall utility says.

My OC is stable, it's been 24 hrs orthos tested and passed.

I'm uninstalling the Catalyst Drivers right now. I clicked ATI - Software Uninstall Utility in the Add or Remove Programs. After it asks me if I want to uninstall the drivers, I get a box saying error Initializing. But then afterwards a Please Wait tab shows up and it continues to uninstall the Catalyst drivers. The Catalyst Control Center uninstalls and but that's it. Afterwards, it says I need to restart my computer.

After I restarted the computer, I opened up Add or Remove Programs, nothing related to the Catalyst Drivers are there. But, in C Drive, the ATI folder is still there, untouched. I have to manually delete the folder.

Is this suppose to happen? It's happened to all of the previous Catalyst drivers as well. I do use Driver Cleaner before I install the new drivers to prevent driver conflicts.

C:\ATI stuff is just the setup files, which are always there. Since the setup files for all your previous driver versions remain, it's easy to revert back by simply locating the folder for the old version and installing it from there instead of re-downloading the setup files for that Catalyst again.

C:\Program Files\ATI, conversely, is for the currently installed driver and should have been completely removed whenever the current driver is uninstalled. If *this* folder persists, then the uninstallation is incomplete.

I installed the 7.7 cats on my mother's PC (X700) and it ran awful. The CPU was totally pegged with just the task manager and firefox. The screen was visibly refreshing. I rolled back to the previous drivers and lo and behold it was fine. It was very strange.

The C:\Program Files\ATI is completely removed. But I found out that the error initializing came from the ATI Display Drivers. When I clicked remove ATI Display Driver in Add or Remove Programs, it said "error initializing". Does anyone else have this problem? If so, how did you fixed it?

I do run Driver Cleaner in safe mode. When I do that, I think everything is gone, including the Display Drivers.
