ATI Catalyst Control Center (CCC) won't start up

I know that most ATI users don't like CCC and will say to stick with the old Control Panel but I wanted to try CCC and decide for myself, since I installed a new X850 XT. Also, new ATI drivers will only have the CCC.

I followed the instructions as I understood them and installed NET.Framework 1.1 & Framework SP1. After that I installed the 5.12 driver then 5.12 CCC. Old drivers were cleaned out 1st with the ATI uninstaller and Driver Cleaner 3.

When I click the CCC icon, it starts to load then just ends. Looking at task manager when I click the icon, it starts CLI.exe then it drops out after a few seconds. CLI.exe is also in my startup file but it only starts running when I click the CCC icon. I searched the web and it seems many people have the same identical problem. I'm tired of playing around so went back to the old Control Panel.

I'm not one to give up easily, so I thought I would ask you guys for advice.

I have the same problem, started with the 5.13's. I tried reinstalling the .NET Framework, going back to earlier drivers, etc... Nothing worked. So I uninstalled the driver and CCC, installed the 5.13's alone (without control panel or anything), and installed ATI Tray Tools, and couldn't be happier.

i think the current ATi CCC download is borked

i had to install an earlier CCC version to get it to work with 5.13.

edit: [i got my x850xt Thurs and played with it all night . . . the runtime wouldn't load . . . no repair or modify would work and even another D/L was the same crap . . . simply using an EARLIER version of CCC solved it]

Doesn't matter if you have NET 1.1 or 2.0

I tried your suggestion and it didn't work. Thanks anyway!

Here is what I went through and still could not get CCC to work.

1.) Installed Windows Installer 3.1
2.) Installed NET. Framework 1.1, SP1 & Ver 2.0
3.) Uninstalled Old driver using ATI uninstall utility
4.) Manually cleaned "ATI" files from System 32 folder according to the "ATI Tweak Guide"
5.) Manually cleaned the Registry of "ATI" files
6.) Ran various reg cleaners
7. Installed 5.12 driver and CCC
8.) Clicked the CCC icon and still won't work

At least I did a good cleanup of old ATI files (amazing how many there were), so I will now just install the 5.12's with the good old Control Panel. I'll also uninstall NET.Framework.

If ATI is going to make CCC standard in their drivers, they need to make sure it installs reliably. From what I read, too many computer knowledgeable people are having the same problems.

If anyone solves this problem, it would be of major benfit if they would post how they did it.

If I can find the strength, I just might try another version of CCC, maybe I'll get lucky too!

CCC doesn't work with the .Net 2.0 for Windows X64. You need to downgrade to 1.1 to get the CCC working.

Fix

I tried an earlier version of CCC and it still doesn't work, so I gave up. I reinstalled the 5.12's with Control Panel and I'm back to my original setup. Maybe I'll try again when the 2006 drivers are released.

They are quite different though. Is ATI CCC compatible with both?

So far, their drivers are only compatible with 1.1. 2.0 should be implied soon enough.

Yep. Same here. 5.13's CCC is borked. 5.12 worked for me in the past. I'm running with the .net distro that came with Visual Studio 2005.

NET 2.0 worked fine with my earlier Cats . . . just the latest CCC is messed up with any version . . . v5.13 display driver is fine also. i d/l'ed BOTH the "complete package" and the separate ones and the latest CCC is still suck
[don't waste your time with it . . . i imagine ATi will have a fix soon].

And use Cat Uninstaller between "tries" :p

Although my 5.13's worked straight off the bat, so to speak, I'd have gone back to pre-CCC. I can't stand the load times for the CCC, and I'm quite frustrated that ATi have pretty much dropped the CP version.

It's possible that you may want to totally uninstall .net, reboot into safemode, clean out ATi's stuff, reboot and install .net, then ATi's CCC. For some reason the uninstalls of ATi drivers in standard mode have never quite got everything, there'd still be a linger reg key. Dunno if they've fixed that though..
