How are other drivers like the Omega drivers - what do they do with the Control Panel? How's their functionality?

You can only do that because you have a last gen card. You miss out on features with the R5xx cards if you don't use the CCC.
Such as?

Also you do realize ATi Tray Tools is constantly being updated to include new features?

Yeah, I know they update it. The last time I tried I either couldn't use AAA because it wasn't available or I couldn't use Overdrive. ATI Tray Tools specifically wouldn't work with overclocking enabled at the time - it didn't recognize my card at all with overclocking enabled. Nothing against software provided by the enthusiast community, I think it's a nice app. Maybe I'll give it another shot to see if it works with the R5xx cards now.

I scored a 3445 with the 5.13 cats.

...wonder what ATI did?

No need to wonder. It just seems to work right.
This is one of the things that i find most appealing about ATI, when they fix a problem or add performance, its usually not at any expence to quality....we have to wait for this one though but i am sure it will turn out the same.

I curse thee, .net !

is there some reason why i need 100mbs of crap just to have a video driver ?

p.s. i dont need a video driver that wants to call the intornet either.

Just wondeirng

Something that important would likely be mentioned. Likely not. I expect 6.12 to come out shortly in early Feb since 6.1 does not support the x1900 series. Hopefully 6.12 will have some nice performance gains and other tweaks.
