ATi Catalyst 3.9 Available

Hey thanks for the heads up. Will download now and try out after work seeing as I have to be there in 15 min :/

Wow, this fix looks good. They fixed the bug where CRT's didn't want to be the primary display in the 3.8's :

Setting the secondary CRT display to 1024x768 32bpp with extended desktop enabled no longer results in not being able to swap between the primary and secondary displays

Also some game fixes for Morrowind (there you go videoclone 😉 ), etc.

I would install these but I've got a test coming up today that I should review for, and none of the fixes are for problems I had. Still, looks solid. Hopefully no monitors explode over this one 😉 .

funny how they kept claiming that the 3.8's were fine (even with all the evidence of damaged hardware) yet they release the new version 3.9 in record time 😀

Used Cat uninstaller, removed Cat 3.8...installed Cat 3.9, MMC 8.7, saw no issues so far...uneventfull installation.

Copy and paste from my post in GH,

I`ve installed the 3.9s,I also used the ATI uninstall utility in "add/remove programs" icon ,I went into safe mode and used Driver Cleaner which found & cleaned the remaining ATI files so the ATI uninstall utility is not perfect.

So far no problems and IQ quality is nice at desktop,I did notice with the 3.8s, they were not up to the usual ATi/DVI IQ standard that I`m use too 🙂
.

I've run across an issue with enabling 1080i (results in a virtual desktop, I'd like to hear if it works properly for anyone....this has been an issue with the last several Cat drivers for me)

Catalyst Driver feedback is where you want to report driver issues.

The "evidence" you speak of was one user reporting 181 accounts (out of 183 accounts) of a damaged monitor. The drivers did not overheat, nor break any monitors. Way to believe internet fairytales though.

Also, it was not a "record time". Look at the previous release dates. They are all in about 30 days.

I never had any problems with 3.8. Also, I don't see any fixes in this driver for the "exploding monitor bug" 😉. Cheers!

The only problem I had with the 3.8's is Display Properties --> Settings --> Advanced opening Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to slow. I timed it at 3 minutes 20 seconds. I dropped back to 3.7 and this annoyance disappeared. I'll wait until the jury delivers it's verdict befor I upgrade to 3.9.

That could possibly be from traces of old drivers or some other problem. It takes <2 seconds for me. What card do you use?

They work fine here with all of my games except Call of Duty, still having crashes intermittantly. I read at Rage 3D that Terry (Cat maker) says he will provide a "hot-fix" for COD issues shortly so for now the game will have to wait.
Some are going back to 3.7 but I prefer the look of 3.8/3.9 in Max Payne which runs well along withall my other games so I don't want to go back to Cat 3.7 for just COD.

It's a BBA 9800np. Did a clean install of Win XP so old drivers shouldn't be a problem.

No need for that, in future just run Driver Cleaner from here ,make sure you follow the instructions.I also recommend you disable fastwrites both in BIOS and ATI control panel "smartgart tab".

What's up with that, the game of the year is crashing with the current ATI driver's catalyst 3.9. Got to get a hot fix quick.

There is a bug that affects at least some AIW 9xxx cards using OpengL in graphic applications and games. Rage3D thread

Here's what I did to "fix" the OpenGL bug:
Replaced the ATI opengl driver "atioglxx.dll" dated 9-30 with the Cat 3.8 version dated 9-12.

*rename the atioglxx.dll file in "C:\WINDOWS\system32" to atioglxx.dllOLD
*Find the driver in "C:\ATI\SUPPORT\wxp-w2k-catalyst-7-94-030917m-011434c\Driver\2KXP_INF\B_11252\atioglxx.dl_" (default Cat 3.8 installation folders)
*Use the expand command to decompress (paste this into the "run" command box if you've used the default folders "C:\WINDOWS\system32\expand.exe C:\ATI\SUPPORT\wxp-w2k-catalyst-7-94-030917m-011434c\Driver\2KXP_INF\B_11252\atioglxx.dl_ C:\WINDOWS\system32\atioglxx.dll"

Works fine now. I'm not sure which cards are affected, but my AIW 9700 pro definately is.

Lost 1000 points in Aquamark GFX score.

I went back to 3.7's again.

But,,, I did the MMC, DVD, Capture upgrades. And left them.

Ironically they gave me a small Aquamark boost also, after I uninstalled and driver cleaned back to 3.7's.
(dont ask me why)

Omega 3.8s run Call of Duty flawlessly, 3.9s make it crash ... luckily I have a 9800XT with the vpu recover feature so I dont have to reboot the system everytime it happens 😀

I believe there are still issues with COD and AIW ATI cards and all their recent Cat drivers...

I have a 9800 AIW, and had the 3.8's....COD crashed almost instantly...tried all the various fixes listed, like turning off fast writes, etc...still no luck....went to the 3.8 Omega's...still no luck....3.9 Dell leak...still no luck........3.7's - no luck......turned off dynamic lighting....voila! No more crashes...I'm afraid to go to 3.9 unless they say they fixed COD issues.....
