Hey,
Has anyone tried the ATI Catalyst 3.1s? I hear they are more stable and faster than previous versions. I'm 3-4 hours away from going home to try them out.

Most of their recent drivers really only affect the Radeon 8500, 9000, 9500, 9700, although the Cat 3.0s even had a few fixes for the 7500.

What would/could happen if someone with an 8500 were to install the 9500/9700 drivers? Would they work? would they unlock some hidden/disabled features.... ?

Well, I didn't gain any advantage with them over the 3.0's as far as 3d marks are concerned, but I am ecstatic over how they improved some refresh rate issues I had with my 8500DV and my LCD! I love these drivers. Well worth the download, IMO.

I installed them on my 7500 AIW and noitced an improvement right away. Plus it gave me a reason to fix my capture drivers, I screwed them up myself.

Edit: forgot a d

The Catalyst drivers are universal, much like nvidia's detonator drivers. It works for ATI's entire current lineup.
