anybody else having problems with them

problems:
UT the original (1999/2000) game runs fine in D3d until you exit the game then it gets locked in a loop, crashes the system, opengl runs fine but is slower
system claims ati2dvag is the problem

all D3D games I have tried have problems at 1600x1200, anything below that it's fine, gamma is way off and can't be corrected

my system: XP home, x1950 pro, agp

anybody else have such problems or no how to fix it?

I tried 7.3 with CCC and CP....results are the same

I don't have any problem with ati 7.3 driver minus CCC I am able to play Madden 2007 but at first time i installed 7.3 driver had problems like slow down and not working with d3d or even with madden 2007 I had to use ATI cleaner to remove old ati driver leftover and re-install 7.3 driver again and worked great.

I had a lot of problems with the 7.3's in WinXP...I tried both the CCC and CP as well, but for some reason STALKER would lock up after a few minutes of running.

I switched back to the 7.2's with the CP and everything works like a charm.

however under Vista Ultimate, the 7.3's are really stable (for me anyway) but they are lacking in performance (hence I am using WinXP Pro again)

This won't solve your problem per-se but it's worth noting it's better to run the original UT with Epic's OpenGL renderer + large textures. It'll look better and run faster too.

well it runs faster in opengl as in max and average frame rates, but under high load the Min. frame rates is slower than D3d for me. unsure which render I am using or if I have the large textures, I will have to look into those Ideas, the game is so old I will have to dig around and see what i can find

I will have to find and try ATI cleaner, I deleted that ATI folder after uninstalling the ATI drivers etc and before install the 7.3 last time

thanks for the feed back people

If you haven't done anything then you have the stock OpenGL renderer. You can get the unofficial one from Epic's website. The large textures are on your second UT CD.

Download for free and use DriveCleaner Pro. It'll remove registry entries that may also cause issues.

7.3's have made me a happy camper. I can finally now ALT-TAB out of games like BF2142 which I was able to before without the game crashing.

Curiosly, I had the same issue running the 3DMark01SE Mother nature, and the worst is that this ati2dvag file is the 2D Display driver, what does it have to do in 3D app? Confused?

well it looks like at this point everything is fixed, I ran driver cleaner pro and reinstalled 7.3 with CCC the crashing problem in Ut is gone, unsure if drive clean did it or if the CCC now set at defualt did the trick.

the D3D problem at 1600x1200 was still there but I set my desk top to 1600x1200 and then set the override refresh rate at 70 in CCC and the problem is gone in all games now, i reset my desktop top to 1280x1024 and the problem didn't comeback

for old Ut I tried the epic openGL render with the large textures, it looks better but unsure if it's any faster

now I have to figure out how disable vsync in Ut for D3d

thanks for the ideas people

EDIT UPDATE:
oh lordy I went and done it now all the problems came back, just had to play around, LOL

but it looks like I have it fixed again, the problem all along is the CCC refresh rate override I can NOT go above 70, which is my desktop refresh rate

and once you go above 70 you can not just go back, it appears to get stuck there, well somewhat once I went above 70 going back and disabling it didn't work it appears, but puting at back to desktop did the trick
