Is it just me or is ATI not upto par with Nvidia? Do you think they will get better with the release of their new cards, or will Nvidia remain on top?

FYI: posting flamebait threads within days of opening an account is not normally a good way to start off.
NVIDIA has the performance crown at the high end right now. It's gone back and forth before, and it probably will again. One company gets ahead, then they get complacent and the other makes a big breakthrough and catches up... same thing with Intel and AMD.
If you're specifically asking about R600 versus G80/G80 refreshes -- there isn't really any hard information available yet.

ATI has the fastest AGP X1950pro(200)/X1950XT (260) and they also best PCIE mainstream offering (X1900GT $160 , X1950XT $210).

I prefer ATI cards but unfortunately right now ATI hasn't released a new product in way too long. I sure hope they don't pull a "3DFX" on us.

I used to be an exclusive Nvidia / Matrox user (was 3dfx before nvidia), purchased an AMD x1950 pro AGP, not a bad card. I will just go for whatever offers me the best performance at my price point regardless of the manufacturer (as long as it is AMD, Nvidia, or Matrox..... drivers from the other video card companies scare me).
Lol, I was going to use that one. All the good jokes are getting used up quick.
Anyone thinks this guy works for Obvious Co. marketing agency?

ATI has had decent to great offerings for hardware for some time now. Their x1900 series card seem to be a step above nvidias 7900 series. Their drivers have improved a lot, although I still don't care for the CCC.
However, as a total offering ATI falls short of nvidia is a few areas. They're only now getting less terrible coolers, whoever decided to keep that dustbuster cooler over 3 product generations should be fired. Not all of nvidia's coolers have been great either, but at least they didn't keep a terrible design for such a long time. And their partners aren't as good as nvidias. XFX, eVGA, BFG all offer good warrentee programs and customer service...without a signifigant premium. Its easy to overlook these things, but they do matter. They especially matter since when you're trying to get marketshare from nvidia...these users are used to these things.
ATI has had better IQ for awhile, I remember being surprised how much cleaner things looked moving from a 6800 to an x850xt. But nvidia has finally caught up it seems with the 8800 series.

Um, no. For the past few years, they've always been been basically identical ASIDE from AA/AF (I'm not too sure about older cards). You have to keep in mind that some people don't use AA and AF, so to them the IQ would be the same. You may want to rephrase what you said. But even now the tides are changing, and gaps are closing in differences.
But ATI being bad? Um, no. ATI usually dominates Nvidia in the high-end area, but Nvidia is usually first (or lately has been) at getting the latest hardware out.
From recent news, though, ATI needs to catch up with problems they've had with this new card.

I haven't bought an ati card since they went to their ccc. I prefer the way nvidia installs their drivers. I don't game so basic video cards is mostly what I buy.
