ati cards and VPU recover

is there any way to force a VPU recover? i have a buggy 8500 that occassionally experiences graphical corruption. I know a few methods to cause VPU recovers to occur, but i was wondering if there was some part of the ATI software i could use to do this instead of a bunch of random crap.
