ATI card on Nvidia chipset

Hi I am in the market for a new DX10 graphics card. I was leaning heavily to buying an 8800GTS. However, now with the 2900PRO I am not so sure. It seems like the 2900 offer some performance gains. I have two questions:
Would you buy the 8800GTS or 2900PRO? (price doesnt matter they are about the same)
Would an ATI card on an Nvidia chipset be bad/incompatible?

Nope, you can use a single ATI card on an Nvidia chipset or a single Nvidia card on an ATI chipset with no probs.

Thats about right, however, you can also use ATI's Crossfire on some Intel chipsets.

I'm using a 2900XT on a 680i chipset at the moment.

Ok thanks. Do you think the 2900 PRO is of better value than a 8800GTS? My mobo has three PCI-E slots. Would it be better to get a nvidia card just in case I need/want to go SLI?

Just curious... how is HP using crossfire on an ATI chipset with their new gaming pc? Obviously there's some type of mod. Any info on this?

Excuse my ignorance on the topic, but why would a mod be needed to run crossfire on an ATI chipset?

He meant crossfire on an nvidia chipset. The Blackbird 002 HP gaming pcs are using the Asus Striker Extreme 680i motherboards that can use crossfire as well as sli. I believe I read in a review that it's due to a modified BIOS but I'm not 100% sure of that.

That is pretty interesting. I'll have to read up on that Blackbird.
