On another forum I read a copy of ATI's investor briefing and they essentially said that it may or may not beat the 7800gtx. ie, they may not be able to clock it high enough to beat it. I wish I could find the transcript itself so its not 2nd hand to everyone here
 
Gee... Don't you think the whole clockspeed thing would be moot if they ACTUALLY had more pipelines than the R420 😛 ?

Apparently everybody's seen the performance of R520 but the people who matter.

It's a sad day whey Forbes adds to the FUD.

No, that's not the way it works. More pipelines means more transitors, which mean more heat and less clockspeed. There are two ways to solve the problem, simple and fast or slow and complex.

Big investors aren't stupid. They have very close relations to top level executives. If you're someone who might have millions of dollars invested in a company, I'm sure you know quite a bit about the company and what they do. It would be common sense that if their new R520 product line isn't as good as Nvidia's then there will be a larger drop in potential revenue.

But seriously, they could be talking about R520 re-spin #2, 3, not the most current one.

This is financial information. Reflective of the status of ATI's R520.
Of course they don't sit around benching 3DMark 2005, but you can bet they follow the review sites that do. Money is their god. Not the damn graphics cards.

 
They can only act on info that the rest of the investment world has or insider information. They are still speculating, thats what they do for a living, and even they loose thier asses from time to time.

Funny that Ati (ATYT)stock is making pretty good gains the last few days, also TSMC (TSM)stock is creeping up as well. These are good indicators that R520 (or some good news) is done and very soon to be released no doubt.
