ATI and NVidia in the same machine

So I have an ATI 4890 as my primary display adaptor, using it for 3D games and the like. I have a 7600gt that I would like to use for 2nd and 3rd monitor, but when I ran the installer for the NVidia drivers the computer BSOD saying something about the driver mismanaging something or other. Is there some trick to get ATI and NVidia cards to work on the same machine?

Well, I can't speak for the 64 bit version of XP, but the 32 bit version should work fine with this type of setup. Maybe someone with XP64 can chime in.

Have you tried waiting for the new hardware found window to pop up, and then manually browsing for the temp driver installer folder and choosing to install the drivers from there?

Yes I have. It blue screens with the same error part of the way through when install the drivers.

I don't know..., but just an idea:

Did you try to log in as another user and install the driver?

Also before that, is the 7600GT giving signal to the monitor? (driver unrelated...)

Yes the monitors indicate they are connected, they are just sleeping.

i thought it was a big no no to install ati and nvidia videocards into the same machine due to driver conflicts and stuff? Was this only with specific to certain operating systems?

It works fine in windows xp 32bit, but I think anything beyond that you are out of luck.

i've been looking for a thread like this.

What i'm reading here is that using Windows 7 RC, it should be ok to have both a 9800GX2 and a ATI 4890 in the same system?
Granting, enough voltage can be supplied, it shouldn't create driver conflicts within the environment then?

This is great; hoping to purchase a 4890 in the very near future to power a second LCD.

Are you able to run each card at it's own resolution as well? Or must i stick with the lowest common denomimator.

Anyways, any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance
