Yea, they just keep making newer cards too soon and the performance lead is not that much. I just want them to make an at least 50% performance lead card over its predecessor.

Well, your point may have some validity to it but some people need those 10% gains to play games at a higher resolution or something. Also, many people want that extra 10% because they don't ugprade for maybe 3 or 4 years so they want the best they can get. Also, think about it from the company's point of view. Lets look into ATI's mind for a minute. Nvidia released NV35 beating our products, do we wait till fall and release our next chipset hoping its faster than their release at the time or do we release that and something with 10% more performance for the time being and then continue on with the fall line up?

You also need to think about the kinds of settings people want to play at. If they want to use high levels of FSAA and AF, then you need a nice card. If there is a 50% performance lead, then game developers will have a hard time because they will have to make sure that the game can work on something 50% slower being only about 6 to 12 months old and the newest while giving support to the previous cards. Companies work in steps, not giant leaps. While they make some leaps, there are usually small steps leading up to it.
