I just got my new aiw radeon and installed it in my system.
After installing the card and drivers off the cd, the computer wouldn't boot into windows. I got a blank screen when the desktop should have loaded. I went into safe mode and noticed that the refresh rate for the adapter was set to unknown. I changed it to the only other option of adapter default and rebooted and it seemed to work fine. However on closer inspection, I wasn't able to change the desktop size to anything bigger than 1024x768@256 colors. Even when I tried to make that change it wouldn't take on reboot. I reverted back to 640x480@16 colors. I also can't do anything that requires any kind of overlays. Definately a driver issue. I have the latest drivers for everything in my system and even tried the ati website and couldn't find anything more current than what I had. Tried it anyway and same result.

My system.

try changing the color depth to 16 bit, and leave it at 640x480. Then reboot, and then try to change the resolution and to 32 bit.

I ripped the following from Paul's FAQ:

Why won't my ATI Radeon graphics card work?

One user emailed me to say that stability can be obtained by setting the AGP Driving Strength in the BIOS to 68. If AGPx4 is disabled and the VIA 4in1 AGP driver is installed in Turbo mode then the card will happily run at AGPx2. There appears to be less success using AGPx4 - although this is widely regarded as offering little practical benefit over AGPx2 anyway.

Check out the whole thing here.
