The newbie first-time build from hell continues...
OK, so I solved my MoBo grounding problems (see earlier thread, "Help! Help! Help!"), got my system to start up with all the right lights lighting and proper sounds, uh, sounding.
When I finally plugged my monitor in, I got a garbled, unreadable screen.
So, I took the X600pro out of the PCI Express slot, yanked an old 3dfx card from an ancient system and plugged it into a PCI slot. Voila, I finally get my first positive experience, the Epox opening screen followed by the setup screen.
So, I know the problem is with the card.
I had the x600pro firmly seated into the PCI-E slot, but I didn't have any power cables connected to it. The Installation and Setup Users Guide didn't mention plugging power into the card so I didn't. However, a comp tech at work told me many of the new cards do require power.
Does the x600 pro require power, and if it does how do I supply it?
Could it be a drivers issue? Is it possible that I could install Windows using my old card then install the drivers for the x600pro afterward?
Is it likely the card is defective?
