ATI AIW Radion 32 TV has too many drivers in OS Win2kPro SP4 IWill k266-6 Mother board & list of drivers-what to delete?

Each time I start the TV it asks me to select a driver from 4 I think I need to delete some from the list below so it only has the right choice and defaults to it. The one that works the TV is ATI Rage Theater Video Capture, Here are the 4 choices offered to the TV:

ATI Rage Theater Audio

ATI Rage Theater Video Capture

MPU-401

C-Media Wave Device

Raw Channel Access Capture/Render

_____________________________________________________________
Additionally thes are my drivers in Device manager under the heading of:

Video Codecs Sound, video and game controllers

ATI WDM Rage Theater Audio

ATI WDM Rage Theater Video

ATI WDM Specialized MVD Codec

ATI WDM Specialized PCD Codec

ATI WDM TV Audio Crossbar

ATI WDM TV Tuner

Audio Codecs

CMI8738/C3DX PCI Audio Device

Legacy Audio Drivers

Legacy Video Capture Devices

Media Control Devices

Specialized PCD WDM VBI Codec

Specialized PCD WDM VBI Codec

Specialized PCD WDM VBI Codec

Standard Game Port

Click on the MMC configuration button on the lauchpad. Go to the "TV" tab and pick the "ATI Rage Theater Video Capture" for the "Primary TV Capture Source" and then click "OK" now the TV should open without asking for the source :)

I do not have the same options you address for me to alter. Normally there used to be an ATI hoice on the Start ---> Programs ----> ATI ----->Launchpad.

In this instalation that is not available.
Trying to right or left click the bar gives no such options,
Going into the Program Files ----> Ati ----> Launch Pad and right clicking it I see no such choices
Clicking on Properties of the right click on the launch pad I also do not have such options
Clicking on the requester which offers the 5 drivers I cannot right click into anything like a change of order or anything like you suggested to me.
Selecting the video driver like I did before gets me the TV but each time I shut off the TV and restart it, it asks which driver I want.

because I tried so many drivers of the ATI and installed and uninstalled then finally I accidentally left the Original CD in the drive so it by itself copied the drivers it needed then I installed custom option- just the launch pad.

where are the drivers that are being offered as choices living ? possibly if I renamed them or moved them to another place it may leave me with one driver. ( BTW I installed all the programs you said I should, could they have added drivers that are now being offered?

Do a search for a file named "MMCCFG.EXE" mine is located at C:\Program Files\ATI Multimedia\main\MMCCFG.EXE. Double click on it if you have it and configure it in there. If you have no such file, you may just have to pick ATI Rage Theater Video Capture each time you open the TV application.

With all those driver installs, why don't you use the new ATI uninstall utility(Link) to remove that mess. Download the latest drivers (Link) (driver/ control panel/ wdm drivers) and make sure you're at SP4, and your Motherboard drivers are updated, DirectX is DX9b. Then install those drivers. Once you get the drivers installed properly THEN work on getting MMC properly installed.

Thanks again rbV5

I did as you said and the same driver choices returned.
However the only war my TV works is with the 4.2 driver and the MMC driver from my CD and only that combination, no other MMC

Now that I know that the 2 are compatable and do the job I will think what I can do.
I wish there were a way to get rid of the extra drivers.

I did a search for the file you had asked (MMCCFG.EXE) and did not find it, neither before nor after the 4.2 driver installations.

I dunno what "Raw Channel Access Capture/Render" is, but those are your Audio and Video drivers, not extra.

After you installed the Cat 4.2 drivers (graphic driver/control panel/ wdm drivers) did you verify that they were the drivers that installed? In the "options" tab of the advanced display properties (right click desktop> properties>Settings>advanced) Look for Catalyst Version, it should say 04.2.

Before you attempted to install MMC did you install "windows media encoder 9" and the "DAO / MDAC" package? If you are infact running the MMC that shipped with the original AIW Radeon card, I think you need to uninstall it and install a much newer version. There is a huge difference in the performance and functionality with the new MMC versions over the one on the installation CD, and I think you're are just going to run into some real trouble if you attempt to get any work done with that oldtimer.

I can try and walk you through it step by step, you got the new Catalyst drivers installed, I believe we can get you a good version of MMC installed as well. Then you should be on your way. If you are interested, I'll help you out. First step is to verify that the 4.2 Catalyst driver/ control panel/ and especially, the WDM drivers are all properly installed. I can't get right back to the thread, as I pulled an all night graveyard shift, so don't fret, I'll check it when I get up in a few hours:)

The cataliyst driver is 042.

What I did differently this install was I downloaded and installed every program (the prerequisit ones you mentioned both in this and the one before this thread including the titler program. I have an olympus C5050 Digital camera and it has a feature called Raw ( meaning no camera enhencements added. The raw format pictures ar requiring a special program to see them. I have a small program called ORF it is an olympus raw format tool. Otherwise any driver that was different this time must have been installed with your programs, I have ORF in win 98 and it has not given me any problems such as new drivers loaded.
I had stayed up all night, the night before so last night I crashed without reading anyting and it is 4:30 am friday here now.

of course I would love any help you wish to offer. being hopefull, I installed lots of programs, and would hate to have to do yet another fresh install... I am way over 1.5 dozen of fresh installs, been at it the entire month , over and over...

Great, looks like the Cat driver installed fine. It also looks like your WDM's are right (if you don't have any yellow exclamation marks next to them in device manager).

You shouldn't have to do any reinstalls of your operating system. The ATI uninstaller does a fine job of removing the drivers (driver cleaner2 maybe a little better).

If you want to try to install the latest MMC 8.9, Here's how I would do it.

*Uninstall your existing ATI Multimedia Center and ATI DVD player (if it is a seperate entry) in "Add or Remove programs" in Control Panel. (Don't save your settings if it asks)
*Reboot
*Install Direct X 9b and Windows Media Encoder 9 if you haven't already installed them.
*Get your original ATI installation and look for a folder named "Gemstar" its probably in the "install" folder Double Click on the "setup" file and install the Gemstar Guide Plus program. Be sure to run the update wizard in the Gemstar (Guide Plus) program folder after the installation to update the program. Reboot if it asks you.
*Leave the ATI installation CD in the drive (for verification if needed) and install "only" ATI DVD player 7.6 reboot if it asks.
*Install the DAO / MDAC component (if you haven't already) reboot if it asks.
*Install ATI Mutimedia Center 8.9, you'll need to do a "custom" install and Make Sure You "UNcheck" the DVD player from the list<--important.

Hopefully, if all went well, at this point, you should have the latest Catalyst driver installed, and MMC 8.9 with DVD player 7.6 installed and working:)
