This is more of a friends problem, but hes been having crashing issues with his system, after some diagnosing he noticed that his fan was not working on the card.

What exactly are the odds of this happening with a card that was just a month old?

Thats exactly what hes doing, I figure a month turnaround time based on my experience (5 days to get rma#, shipping time, ati says about 10 day turnaround time)

He's had the worst luck at times with certain systems

Just a couple of things, stuff you've probably already tried. Make sure the card is hooked up right (seated correctly with the auxillary power cable). Allso, d/l the 3.2 drivers if you haven't already. I'd try that to make sure, also consider DX9. When I first installed my card, it acted like what you're describing. For some reason, it did not recognize the AGP bus, so everytime I ran an AGP program it crashed my system. Upgrading fixed it.

Well, he had the newest drivers in, the cards fan just simply wasn't spinning, the store he bought it from actually did a swap and that led to the solution of his real problem (shady dealer selling shady ddr)
