I'm attempting to use my TV Tuner/Capture features on my ATI card for the first time. First off I have all the latest drivers/software installed. (As of 8/1/02)... I'm also testing on a FRESH install of Win2k. With the most current (and any other vers except the 7.1 that came with the card) the TV program will not even execute. With the 7.1 it will run but crashes at random times.. Sometimes during a channel scan. The vid capturing also has problems. The video will sometimes capture a small portition of the video and the final part will simply be a flickery image over and over almost like what pause looks like on a VHS movie. ATI's tech support is horrible and if I even want to try I have to call a 900 # at $2 a min. They're online email system is just crap and I have yet to get a responce. I'm tempted to just RMA the device since it's been well over 30days from best buy. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know. Thanks

maybe a irq conflict that only surfaces during tv/capture. any conflicts/other devices using same irq in the device manager?

could be a motherboard/video conflict.....are you using your motherboard's latest bios? if a via chipset are you using the current 4in1 driver?

do you have the proper codecs?

do you have the current directx installed?

hmm I very much doubt it. I don't have a whole lot on the machine but I'll take another look.

It's an intel motherboard and has the latest bios rev installed.

do you have the proper codecs?

I didn't specifically download that codec file but I believe I'm up to date in that area.. I'll give it a shot.

do you have the current directx installed?

Yup DX 8.1.. Thanks for the info at least you've given me some ideas.

hi, i've had ATI AIW radeon 32mb since jan '01 and my report is that the driver situation (W2k as well as WXP) now and since then is less than ideal (get used to alot of BSOD's!). anyway, regarding the current drivers & software for win2k: there was a problem in the capture driver 6125 released aug1 which resulted in 'unknown device' problem during install. go get 6125v4 which was posted aug 7 i believe. here is my latest installation sequence:

W2k clean
SP3
various Windows updates
VIA 4in1 440 (AIW seems like it needs the AGP driver to work)(viaarena.com)
DX8.1

installed:
Windows media codecs (ati website)
ATI AIW capture driver 6125v4 (dont reboot)
ATI Catalyst driver 6118 (also tried 6017 with similar result see below)
ATI AIW control panel driver 3017
ATI DVD 7.6 (have orig cd handy)(DVD must install before MMC)
ATI MMC 7.7.0.1

(i'm documenting the above sequence from my recollection so it might be slightly out of order)

this install works as good as it seems like it will be with current driver releases (TV at least runs!) but still crashes (just installed yesterday)
stop 0x000000d1 (0x78fe86da, 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0xeb502dd3)
stop 0x00000050 (0xf000e815, 0x00000000, 0xf000e815, 0x00000000)
instead of the typical _irq not less than it said something about _driver dll one of these times

it seems like the best drivers for W2k were 3276 version (or was it 3117?) from summer 2001, if i recall, along with the DVD & MMC versions at the time.
that installation ran quite well. i'm thinking of going back to it. Except i will miss the new features such as the 90 degree monitor rotation!

i had high hopes for the new Catalyst driver initiative, but it seems like it's taking steps backwards!
ps. who knows anyway if it is comlpetely ATI fault and not VIA's or my particular motherboard/bios/settings i don't know.

system: 1ghz Athlon TBird, 512 mb pc133 (2x128mushkin rev3, 256 crucial), msi k7t-pro2a bios 4.3 (or 3.4?), WD 60GB 7200rpm, soundblaster live value
