ATI AIW 8500DV + DX9 and CAT3 Drivers............

I've seen in several other forums, and here on A/T some people using the tandem listed above. A few questions since the other threads have been vague at best:

1) Is it stable and run games reliably?

2) Is there ANY advantage since the 8500 does not support DX9?

My kids system has the ATI AIW 8500DV with a P4 2.53 in a P4S533 board with 512mb of Corsair XMS3200 and I was considering updating as mentioned above, but, want to be sure of compatability and such first!

I believe then you also have to upgrade to MMC 8.0 as well...look into that...may also want to post this question at www.rage3d.com...they are a bit more Radeon Savvy.

I think the cat 3's are helping some but like with any new drivers they have a set of their own issues. What ever you do make sure you do a clean install.

You will need to install latest WDM drivers, then Cat 3's, then control panel....reboot....then install MMC 8.0...

I checked ati's website and they list cat 3's now for 8500DV yet there is no call for dx 9 besides dx 8.1...also when you go to optional software they still just list 7.7.0.1....so evidently you do not need MMC 8
