ATI 9800 PRO- system locks up during video playback

I just updated my gpu from a NVIDIA geforce 4 Ti-4200 to an ATI Radeon 9800 Pro. I now have a problem playing most video files. DVDs using cyber link or Media Player Classic freeze the computer. Mpegs freeze using my Creative Mediasource player. Windows media player can play some mpegs.

The computer stops playback usually upon loading the video and then for a few seconds u can click the mouse and move it until the computer speaker beeps and the computer is completely locked.

I'm not sure what the problem is- I'm using the 4.7 cats, used driver cleaner for the nvidia drivers, reinstalled direct x, defragged. When i put my ti-4200 in the system, videos play fine.
I'm not sure if it could be a conflict with my ati and audigy 2- anyone know of a problem with these 2?

Anyone have any ideas? I dont want to reformat but will if necessary. Should i rma the card? Any input on this problem would be greatly appreciated.

Also I have a yellow /!\ in my device manager next to BIOS plug and play extension. The POST screen says "Bios update data incorrect ....."
I'm not sure if these problems are related.
Thanks alot.

Regardless, you should still update the BIOS... Make sure all your mainboard drivers are installed as well. What is your AGP speed? If 8X try it at 4X

All my mainboard drivers are installed. The max agp speed on my board is 4x so its already running at that.
Also, I just put the ati in different computer and it played a dvd fine.

Try a couple of things:

Make sure DMA is turned on on all of your IDE drives (including Hard Drives).

Check your AGP Aperture. The old rule of thumb was to set it to half of your system memory, but that's probably too much now. Try setting it to 128 MB (in the BIOS)...

Hope this helps...

I put the ati back in the system and it works now...
Ati was never the best with drivers.

Anyways, i reflashed my bios and i still have the plug and play bios extension error in my device manager... on the phone with asus now.

thx for the replies.
