So, I uninstalled the ati driver then rebooted to safe mode, cleaned ati drivers, yanked network cable out, rebooted again. it didnt auto install this time, so i cancelled 2 times, then installed the catalysts 4.3 this time... and it's still crashing.

OK, you cleaned the ATI drivers via driver cleaner, but what about the nVidia drivers? That's where the problems will be. Do everything over and this time when in safe mode, run cab cleaner first (it will remove display drivers that are in the .cab files) on all the cards listed. Then run Driver Cleaner, again ON ALL DISPLAY CARDS LISTED! Now when you re-boot there will be no display drivers anywhere except the generic windows driver. Windows will recognize the 9800 but it won't be able to install drivers for it (unless you don't have your network cable unplugged...;)). Once windows is done doing it's thing, install the drivers of your choice. If you still have problems then at least you know the drivers aren't to blame and you can look for other problems.

It's funny, I was thinking of upgrading from my ti4200 to a 9800 pro, but if he's having this many problems, perhaps I shouldn't! :(.

i will tell you that formatting at this time is nonsense. You cleaned drivers out and the problem persists. Highly doubtfull format is going to solve this. Next step is to rule out the power supply as I said earlier.

Too late boss, and it appears as though everything is working splendidly. Just played a few UT2k4 matches and it didnt crash at all. Now I've gotta call up M$ to get a new key for winxp... too many activations4me.

I'll do some more testing and get back to yall. Thanks again for the help!

Just a quick update, everythings still great. ZERO crashes... and I played about 2.5 hours straight of Far Cry yesterday.
