I have recently upgraded to a 9800 Pro AGP 256mb from a Asus Ti 4600 Ultra.
It plays COD 2 and Battlefront 2 fine. However when I try to play CS or DOD my whole system locks up. I have tried the newest Cat drivers and even some older ones. Also I tried the OMEGA drivers and still the same. I thought perhaps my SB Live! was prob but thats not it either. Is there a problem with STEAM and ATI? My steam is up to date.
Thanks for any tips or advice.

Edit: Yes I tried Driver Cleaner.

Gigabyte GA-7S748
Athlon 2600+ 333
1gb PC3200 DDR
ATI 9800 Pro 256mb AGP
160gb WD
80gb WD
60gb WD
400-450 PSU (Im currently at work so not sure on brand.)
SB Live Value!
Side of case open, great Vent.
Tried Driver Cleaner and all the latest Cat Drivers including OMEGA.

Doesnt seem to be a PSU issue or Overheating because COD2 and Battlefront 2 play perfectly and im sure they demand more than CS.....right???

I'm confused... does Steam itself crash, or the games don't run right? You don't seem to be differentiating between them; Steam is a separate app. I can't see any reason that Steam would care what kind of video card you have installed... if it's crashing, you might try reinstalling it. If it's just HL2 or DOD:Source that are not working, try reinstalling those.

I also upgraded my system at one point from a Ti4600 to the 9800Pro, and I had a ton of problems until I used Driver Cleaner and reinstalled both the chipset drivers and the video card drivers. NVIDIA's drivers -- at least a few years ago -- basically made a huge mess out of the system and didn't uninstall cleanly. I don't know if they're any better now, but I'd recommend uninstalling the video and chipset drivers (using Driver Cleaner), and reinstalling both (along with DirectX 9.0c).

I've got an AGP 9800Pro, and I haven't had any problems with Steam or any of Valve's games. Honestly, you think they'd make it incompatible with a card that popular? And nobody would have noticed before now?
