ATI 9800 AIW pro w/ Asus A7V8X issues

im getting artifacts. Games are not playable at all. Seems to me like the card is running too hot. Why is that? Have a Vantec 500W psu, seems good.

When I tried my old Ati 9200 back, it worked fine. I even tried disabling AGP 8x, but no luck. Am i missing something? Did i do something wrong? Is there a fix or is the card just broke?

Try running ATITool and scan for artifacts. There's no way to monitor the temps on a 9800 non-xt. Is the card getting adequate cooling, i.e. is the fan working?

I ran ATI Tool already and it did show artifacts.
The fan is running, but the card gets really hot. Is it the psu? voltage??

You are not oc'ing it, are you? Have you oc'ed it in the past? Is the fan/heatsink clean? Is the heatsink too hot to touch?

Usually high temps are not a problem unless they are near the extremes. It's possible you just have a bad card. How old is the card?

nope, never even thought about oc'ing it.

The card was working fine until about a couple of weeks ago. Thats when i changed the psu and I tried the Arctic Silver VGA cooler. However, I have changed the fan back to the stock, still there are artifacts. Cant figure out if it was the psu or the VGA cooler i tried.

The temps around the card are unusually high. It was never that high before, which is making me think it has something to do with the psu. Any help is appreciated

Well, since you've changed the cooler on the gfx card twice, I'm wondering if the HS is making good contact and if you applied the thermal paste properely (not too much etc.)

Have you tried putting the old PSU back in to see if the problem's resolved?

yup, tried the old PSU back, there are still artifacts.

So there is some problem with the card. Anyone knows of a fix?
