ATI 9800 AIW Pro & Samsung 712N- Max Refresh Only 60??

I have 2 PCs at home - the Samsung runs at 1280X1024 at its rated 75 Hz on my wife's PC which runs an old Gainward GForce video card. The LCD is flicker free - no issues.

On my PC running an ATI 9800 AIW Pro all I can run is 60 Hz. If I run 70 or 75 Hz my screen display flickers/pulsates.

Do I have a defective ATI 9800 AIW card or am I setting it up wrong? I have only had the card a few days - hopefully I am missing something on the set up procedure?

Now I can run 75 Hz on my old Sony 17" CRT monitor with no issues.

BTW- Under settings/advanced/display the card is reading the monitors DCC info and reports the max refresh rate correctly at 75Hz. Strangely when I check the box to list only the refresh rates supported it only lists 60 Hz and 70Hz.

Hoping that by running at the rated 75Hz refresh rate that the scrolling vertical lines/bands would be reduced.

I do not get these lines/bands on the other PC which runs great at 75 Hz.

Is the video card bad / defective ? Everything seems to work on it.

RESOLVED:

Isolated the cause of both :
1. Scrolling bands on screen (interference)
2. Not being able to go beyond a 60 Hz refresh rate on a lcd monitor rated at 75 Hz

The cause was feedback from the TV cable hooked up to my AIW card. Disconnected the cable and was easily able to use a 75 Hz refresh and the interference on the screen went away.

Now I just need to figure out how to filter the noise from my cable - while hooked up to my AIW card??

I already told you, it doesn't matter running a higher refresh rate on an LCD monitor. The screen does not refresh like a CRT monitor. It is a static image, you could run it at 30hz and still have zero flicker. If you really do care for some reason this much about it. Try checking the "alternate DVI operational mode," and the "reduce DVI frequency on high-resolution displays" options. They're in your display settings, under options.

Personally, on my old samsung 191T I actually got a noticeably worse looking picture running at 75hz vs 60hz.

*edit*
Now that I read your post closer, are you getting banding at 60hz?
