I purchased an OEM ATI 9700 Pro on Ebay and it's turned into a nightmare. When I boot up, after the Windows XP logo I get a black screen with a little yellow square in the upper left corner. I installed the latest Mother Board drivers from the VIA website for my ASUS P3V4X. I have the latest BIOS revision. I have the minimum required 300W power supply. The only clue I have to go on is: after I installed the latest VIA drivers for my motherboard and I boot up with my old card, an ATI 7200, which works like a champ, I get the New Hardware Found Wizard that says "select to install software for the following new hardware: VIA Bus Master IDE drivers". I've tried searching my C: drive everywhere to find any drivers that might please this wizard but the wizard won't accept anything.
Any help would surely be appreciated. I'm starting to think that maybe I was sold a bad card.

IT could be that your PSU is not up to running the wattage needed for the ATI 9700 Pro. Also you may have a conflict with the sound card. You might want to pull the sound card and drivers and see if that changes things.

You can make a new folder on the desktop and open your via files to the folder. Then go into the device manager and manually load the drivers from the folder you made.

The power supply is definately a potential problem. I had a Raidmax 350w, everything was jittery and underperformimng till I got an ANtec 400w. Smooth after that. Also check the AGP slot settings. Try doing a fresh install of WIndows. Worst comes to worst and if u wanna dispose off the cards, contact me.

i figured out my problem. the reason why i was getting the black screen after the windows logo is because my monitor couldnt handle the video card. i bought a new monitor and tried it out and it worked fine. so make sure you dont have an older monitor.
