I have an ATI 9700 Pro All-In-Wonder card that is still under warranty on which I had replaced the stock fan with a Zalman passive heatsink cooler. It worked for years with that cooler until several months ago, when I started seeing video artifacts. I tried putting the original HSF back on, but the artifacting was actually much worse. Finally, I put on the Zalman VF700Cu HSF using the lower speed fan option and that fixed the problem. Well, it started artifacting again, so I used the higher fan speed on the Zalman to fix it.
If I try to get a warranty replacement on the card, I can put the original HSF back on, but since the original yellow thermal interface pad is no longer there, it will be apparent that I messed with the HSF. Will this be a problem with warranty replacement?
