ATI 9700 OC question

Hi All,

My friend just bought a new system and asking me to help him install. He has ATI 9700 and wants to OC the video card. Does ATI have something that NVDA has "coolbits" that unlocks a feature which allows you to OC the video card? Also which driver does most ATI users use? Any link would be appreciated.

TIA

Rivatuner works. So does Rage3DTweak and Powerstrip. I'm using Rage3DTweak on my AIW 9700 Pro w/ 3.4 drivers and got it up to 350/325 so far, gonna keep it there for a week before trying for more.

For those who has this card. How's your OC experience? At what levels did you OC for both the core and mem?

ok, so I downloaded Rage3DTweak and installed. It gave me the option tap called Overclocker. I made changes there to about 300/300mhz. However, the change won't take into effect ever after I click apply. It keeps going back to the default setting of 276/270. What gives? Any help would be apprecaited.

Some of the 9700 non-pro's are clock-locked and you can't overclock them. Try installing a different tweaking program and see what happens. My 9700 PRO is running at 390/720, which I feel is a great overclock for a plain-jane 9700 PRO.

ketchup79, Thanks. I'll try using a different program like Powerstrip and see if that works. There should be a way to unlock it....anyone?

You could try downloading the Omega drivers (version of Cat 3.4's) as I believe they unlock the cards for overclocking.

Manually tweak the setting in firmware then use ATIFlash to load into the card if your card is locked. I had to do that to overclock my 9700NP. Not something a non-techie should do since it can ruin your card(or your friends).

I use the Omega drivers myself.

I use the omega drivers, they are basically the same as the cats with a couple of tweaks and an overclocker built in.
