Okay.. I've got a 9600 Pro 128M card (Not XT) and a 9550 256M card sitting in my lap.. both are genuine ATI cards.. which is the better card?

Thanks...

I'm interested in this as well. I got a 9600 non-pro. Curse you ATI for making things confusing!

They are so close in specs that I'm having trouble deciding.. i was hoping somebody would have a good technical explaination as to why one was better than the other..

i thought 9600 and 9550 should be very close in performance... but 9600 Pro should definitly beat the 9550 even if 9550 has 256mb.... i dont think that memeory size matters too much.

Yeah.. I've been told that memory above 128M on the card doesn't make that big of difference.. I'm assuming either of these would blow a 9000 with 64M out of the water..

The size of the frame buffer means nothing if the card is too slow to use it anyway.

Generally, from what I've seen:
9550 < 9600 ~ or < 9500
