ATI 9600 Overheating?

I have an ATI 9600 and the picture quality is not that great and starts to glitch when I set the display in hi-res 1600x1200. Could it be that the card is overheating? All it has is a passive heat sink on it.

16x12 isn?t going to be any harder (causing more heat) than other lower resolutions. Just the factory heatsink on 9600 should be fine. The small core on the 9600 doesn?t produce a lot of heat and I?m sure ATI wouldn?t release a card that had heat problems because of an inadequate heatsink.

You could try reinstalling a different driver to see if that makes a difference. Failing that, maybe you have a defective card.

The 9600 is not that small of a core, but it does produce only 22w of heat. I would be tempted to get a zalman to cool it, I use a z80a with a 9600 pro and have no issues at 500mhz core.

Thanks. I'm pretty sure its not only the video card itself causing all the heat. I am running a 3GHz Pentium 4 processor with an 800FSB and I think that my PC case isn't dissipating the heat fast enough.
