hi,

got to find a cheap (<$70) graphic card for my old box and am considering ATI 9550, 9600 and 9700. however, i'm not quite sure about the difference between them. i read some guy said 9550 and 9600 have actually the same architecture?

thanks.

9700 is better, but it's also more expensive. considering the horsepower of my old box...
what's the difference between 9550 and 9600, then?

If you can wait for a few weeks, I'll sell you my 9500 which you can softmod into a 9700 pro. I'm waiting on my new card to come in.

if your really going to spend that much, why not consider on nvidia 6200 (non tc, 128 bit) or nvidia 6600. They have a better architecture, and are up to date cards.

6600 or 6200 (which you could mod to a 6600)

a 6600 beats a 9700, plus has Shader model 3, which i wouldnt complain about having.

A 6600GT Beats a 9700Pro .. And a 6600 overclocked beats a 9700Pro apart from that they are around the same .. maybe the 9700Pro having the edge in some FPS games, with its 620Mhz mem on a 256bit bus, compared the 6600 with its 500Mhz mem on a 128bit bus..

Seriously hans, you are like a broken record. It seems like SM3 is what you dream about at night and what gets you hard.

The 9700 would be best, but will be hard to find at $70. The 9600 is faster than the 9550, but the 9550 can be had for $60 (the 128-bit version).

Therefore, your best bet for a new card is:

or for a little more:

The 9600XT has a faster core and memory clock, and would be worth $80. If you don't want refurbished, then this one is really good for the price:

The core is at 500 and memory clock at 600 MHz, much higher than the 9550 or 9600Pro.

On the NVidia side, you can get a 6200, or a 5700LE.
