i was thinking about geting the 9550 and adding 256mb more ram to my pc, but i already have 512mb ram with a 3000+ AMD Athlon XP processor.

But what my question is, what will give me better proformance?

i would love to be able to play SC:S with 100+ FPS in 1024 X 768.

Thanks for the Info. ;)

Are those U.S. dollars? B/c both 9600Ps and XTs go for around $100 here.

If you want CS:S benches, Xbitlabs posted a big roundup with quite a few (all?) of the maps a month or so ago. I don't think a 9250 will net you 100fps, though you should check to make sure.

Well here's my problem i just sold my XboX for $160 on a Best buy gift card (non-refundable for Cash) and i realy want a better video card, mine's a G-force 4 64mg and i get about 40 FPS on 800X600. and Best buy is overpriced so that realy sucks. i need to find some sucker that will give me $160 for this gift card damn it!. lol.

For $140 or less, the 9600 XT.
For $170, get a 9800 Pro 128-bit or FX 5900 XT.

The 9600 XT is the better of the two, even given the prices (though both options do suck...NEVER even THINK of buying a video card in a large retail chain ever AGAIN...at Newegg you could have a 9600XT and 256MB RAM :)).

See the OP. I was not referring to 256MB video cards, but getting a 9600 XT and 256MB system RAM for $170.

well you cna try going to best buy and sell your $160 credit to someone that's about to buy stuff,, but I'm sure you'll need to give them a discount for your $160 card,, like say $130

OTOH, $130 would be a typical 9600 XT cost, so in that case, it's a wash.

Does'nt the 9550 usually come with slow 4ns TSOP mem? and 256mb of that stuff is not worth even 128mb of good, fast BGA mem that a 9600XT should have.

try 9550pro. cant you flash those to 9700pros which are loads faster than 9600xts?

I've never heard of a 9550P. Some plain 9500s that came with a 256bit (L-shaped) memory arrangement could be flashed to 9700s by unlocking the core. 9500Ps all had 128-bit memory arrangements, so there's no way to make them into 9700s.

Yep, 9700Ps will be up to twice as fast as 9600XTs, as they have twice the memory bandwidth.
