ATI 9500 Pro VS TI4600 / Which one for me

My current vid card is TI4200 64 Meg

The games I play are MP FPS: MOHAA, BF1492, AVP2, SOF2

I do not plan to use AA or AF

My budget is $200

My system info:

P4 1.6 @ 2.1

Epox mobo with 845G chipset

512 MB 2100 DDR

 
If you are not planning on using AA or AF, I would probably just stick with the card you have. There's really not much reason to upgrade yet, in advance of any DirectX 9 games. And I certainly don't see a reason to upgrade to a ti4600 (you could almost OC your 4200 that high if you wanted, at least in theory). Besides, the ti4200 is a good card ... you might want to just wait awhile for ATI to release their next card and then pick up a 9700 series when the prices drop.

That being said, I'm very happy my Radeon 9500 pro - it's a great card. Of course, I was upgrading from a GeForce2 🙂. But if I had a ti4200 right now, I'd wait until I could afford a 9700. Hopefully by then Doom3 will be out!
 
I would concur. Upgrading would only net you 2000 3dmarks at best and it would not be worth it at this time.

Save your money for now. Consider upgrading again in about 3-4 months. After the GFFX and the R350 have been released.
 
well i now have a geforce2 and im upgrading to a 9500 Pro
but if i had a 4200 i would NOT upgrade unless you feel the need for 200 fps stick with the 4200
 
i'd wait for Nvidia and ATI to launch their NV31/NV34 and R350 respectively

they're coming very soon, possibly on March 12th
 
I went from a GeForce4 Ti 4200 w/ 128MB to a Radeon 9500 Pro and saw a huge improvement in BF 1942. I can play with all the effects at their highest at 1280x1024 and the game is now super smooth, with my GeForce4 I had to turn most of the effects down and it still didn't play as smooth.

That being said, I only got a new card because my dad needed one and I gave him my 4200.
 
I am Nvidia fan. But I gave in and got 9500 pro...=|...can't fight the factors no matter who you root for. Go Nvidia! 🙂 Us Asians need to support each other.
 
ATi is a Canadian company founded in 1984 by three Hong Kong immigrants (KY Ho, Benny Lau, and Lee Lau). KY Ho is still the head honcho at ATi. If you're cheering nVidia because Jen-Hsun Huang is asian, then you should be cheering for ATi as well.

As for the original poster, the Ti4200 is more than enough for now. When I overclock my P4 1.6A to 2.13Ghz (I use an MSI 645 Ultra motherboard though) I score around 11,300 marks with the Radeon 9500 Pro clocked stock in 3DMark2001 and around 3550 in 3DMark2003, so you wouldn't see any dramatic performance differences.
