Ok, so I have an oldie but goodie system that I built 4-5 yrs ago.

P4 2.4GHz 533fsb that I can OC to 2.8+ (I've done it before just for kicks)
1 GB Kingston RAM
AGP 4x MBoard.
ATI Radeon 9500Pro (unlockable version, not OC'd)

I just bought a PNY 6800GS AGP from the Hot Deals Forums today.

Now I did some reading, and it looks like the AGP4x won't be a problem with performance since it still provides clearance for the 6800GS.

I've also ordered the Arctic Cooler NV5 Silencer Rev. 3 and some Arctic Silver 5 thermal compound for cooling this. Hopefully I can do a little overclocking.

Given that I will overclock the CPU to 2.8+ GHz, what kind of increase will I see over my Radeon 9500 Pro?

In this setup, how CPU limited am I?

Also, anyone know the success rate of unlocking it to 16 pipes?

Thanks in advance.

you'll gain about 2 levels of resolution higher in games, so like from 800x640 to 1280x960 and also be able to use aa/af more often.

You'll see a big performance jump. 9500 pro is old school card while the 6800 GS can keep up with today's games.

Unless you overclock your 9500, the 6800GS should give you a nice quality/speed increase.

you should be able to run most games now at 1280x960 res at stock speed. unlocking/overclocking will allow you to turn on some aa/af.

You could o/c that 9500 pro to doomsday and still not even come close to the 6800GS AGP.

Now I'm getting excited!!! I only play WoW since it is my drug of choice. I bet I can do even higher resolutions since it isn't that graphic intensive. Right now I play 1024*768 with medium settings. Get 30-50 fps unlesst things get crazy. Then it goes to hell.

probably a decent one

i went 9500 to 6800GT, but i also went AXP to A64 at the same time. i was easily able to play all games i had at the time at my monitors max (1280x1024) with 4xaa 16xaf.

128bit mem really hurts the 9500pro, but then again thats why its not a 9700 lol
