ATI 9000 pro RETAIL 64 MG versus 128 MG - if no gaming, is the extra 64 MG important for resolution, etc ?

For office use with 19? LCD and occasional DVD does 128Mg mean that much rather than 64 Mg in the video card ?

It is a lot easier to find and acquire the ATI 9000 pro RETAIL 64 meg card than the same with 128 meg.

This would not be being put in a gamers computer but one in a home office environment and matched to a Viewsonic VX900 19? LCD.

The importance of the DVI interface is obvious. I would like to get them the RETAIL version so that returns to ATI are possible, rather than the OEM, which is made by Sapphire and others, with an ATI chip.

Thus, the only difference between the ATI 9000 pro RETAIL 64 and 128 meg seems to be the extra 64 Mg of ram.

Is that extra 64 meg of ram significant for the above mentioned use. Again, it is in a home office and used for most business applications and some demonstration DVDs (played via the DVD drive, mostly)

If the extra 64 megs or ram is valuable for screen resolution and DVD viewing, then I will go for it, however, if its only use is speed of GAMING, then it would not be needed.

Thanks, responses welcomed

Thank you madthumbs,
What would the purpose and value of the extra 64 megs be ? For Gaming ? For rending monster Photoshop and other Adobe type graphics and video ?
I am genuinely curious

64 vs 128MB doesn't make a difference in today's games (except Unreal II, which is just eyecandy) and won't for awhile.

Unless you like to "play" 3DMark all day. :p

Nab the 64MB. :)

YOu shouldn't ever be needing the extra 64 megs for anything 2d. Heck, you could probably get by just fine with 16.

64 meg is fine. Like someone said earlier games don't really address more then 64 effeciently. Also I think on the 9000 the card was originally designed for 64 (I could be wrong) so once again the added 64 doesn't provide much benefit at all.

Thanks, guys. The COMPOSITE TV out on the 128 would remove the need for an adapter, which the 64 would need (it only has the S/video out) but the Retail box and lack of need for the extra 64 would be quite relevant.

1600x1200x32 takes up all of 7 and a half megabytes

the s-video to composite adapter will be in the retail radeon box

Thanks ElFenix !

I tried hard to find out what exactly was/is in the RETAIL box, as Radio Shack charges $20 for the the s-video to composite adapter. This is of considerable help.
