ATI 9000 on Inspiron weird

:| I have a dell inspiron 8500 refurb. Worked like a charm for 6 months. I have an ATI 9000 video adapter. All of the sudden, I can't cold boot to high res. I can boot to safe mode or svga (winXP) or to Linux, but I can't boot direcly to high res. XP boots all right, but the monitor blanks out. The weird part: once it warms for about 5 to 10 minutes I can reboot or switch to high res without a problem. Any clue? Dell isn't too helpful.

Can you boot to high resolution in Linux?

Check dell's support site for updates on bios and video drivers.

See if that helps and post back.

Try the Omega Drivers. for XP, but this doesn't sound like a driver problem as much as a weird hardware quirk to me.
