Which is faster for games? budget short......... I know 8500DV has more features like capturing, TV, Firewire, etc..... but I like to play games at the same time..........like UT, Jedi KNight2...etc........

Thanks

check the benchmarks for sure.. I believe the 8500 would have the edge...

budget short you say, but the Radeon 9000 I am also sure is alot less money though.

If I could buy the 8500 AIW for the same price as the 9000 128MB I'd get it in a heartbeat! 🙂 As it is, the AIW costs significantly more but is both faster and has all the nifty video capturing stuff. 😉

Mind you, retail box Radeon 9000 Pro is pretty expensive.... for the same $250CDN you could easily get a TI4200, 4400 or something.

The 9000 128 pro will be faster/cheaper than the 8500dv and has twice as much faster ram, but you shouldn't be comparing those 2 cards<apples & oranges>

I think you got that backwards, the 8500 is faster than the 9000Pro in every benchmark I have seen.

The 9000 128 pro is only slightly slower than a Radeon 8500 128, and exceeds it in some benchmarks...the 8500dv is MUCH slower than a Radeon 8500 and a poor overclocker with 64MB ram clocked at 190MHz and the core at 230MHz vs 128 MB 275MHz core/memory clocks of the 9000pro, at higher resolutions the 9000 really starts top pull away, and reportedly a good overclocker as well.

Got any links to prove what you're saying?

Even my Radeon 8500LE cloked at 250/200 beats the 9000Pro.

Here shows the 9000pro 64 favorably against the 8500 in UT2003, Here shows the 8500dv fairing poorly against the AIW 8500 128 in 3DMARK 2001 SE, Here is a comparison between 8500 and 8500dv, the 8500dv comes in about ~ GF3 Ti200. Here the 8500dv~9000 pro 64 in AquaMark,Q3A head to head, very slightly faster in 3DMark 20001 SE, RTCW.

So pretty close between the 9000 pro 64, but the 128 should be a bit faster. Admitedly not a clear win over the 8500dv, but definately does not get hammered by the 8500dv either.

The 8500DV is underclocked when compared to the plain 8500.

If you could get the AIW 8500 128MB, that might be game, but I think that I'd go with the 9000.
