1280X960 resolution will not show up. i have the latest catalyst and the monitor drivers are correct. every other resolution shows up just fine. does the 7000 normally not support this resolution?? i have a 19" sony g420

no. i don't think ATi supports 1280x960 on any card. they certainly don't on my 8500.
and 7000 is not that bad, its equal to most integrated video and stuff... just the original radeon

yeah i know it sucks, but i don't use it to play games.
if its true ati doesn't support 1280x960, im afraid i can't buy ati no longer. i like using that resolution for my ti4200. gonna post at rage3d, see if its true for all cards. thanks.

ps: i think the original radeon is better. something about t&l not being in the 7000.

i know it was an issue with the 8500 when it came out so i havent been expecting it to work since. and it hasn't. dont think its a big deal personally since 1280x1024 is all anybody uses in games anyways.

the guys over at rage3d say they have no probs with 9700 and 9500 cards running 1280x960. they might have fixed it with the 9000 cards too since its new. guess its just for the older cards. that sux

tapir: 640x480, 800x600, 1024x768, 1152x864, 1280x960, 1600x1200 all are 4:3 ratios which is the perfect aspect ratio for computer monitors.
1280x1024 a 5:4 ratio. use your calculator if you don't believe me. thats why people with 19" monitors use 1280x960 instead of 1280x1024.

AFAIK 1280x960 has only just been enabled by default in the latest drivers when using an 9500/9700. I do not know if it is now enabled for previous models. If you are already using the latest and are still lacking the option then it must be enabled by other means, namely editing an INF before install, editing the registry afterwards, or the easiest of all - installing Rage3D Tweak's Custom Display Mode's tab.

yeah, i went to custom resolutions for 3d tweak. makes me wonder why ati got rid of 1280x960 in the first place.

For some reason ATi chose 1280x1024 over 1280x960. I play most of my games in 1280x1024 and it looks fine, so I don't see the problem in leaving out 1280x960 so long as they don't eliminate 1280x1024.

I keep my desktop (19" Samsung 955DF) at 1152x864; that resolution seems perfect for my screen size.

I've used that 1280 X 960 with several different Radeon cards. You have to use a tweaker like Rage3D tweak or edit your registry. They all support that resolution, even the 7000.

I had a Radeon 32DDR for years and always had to go in to manually add the 1280x960 resolution. I eventually found a program called RefreshFixer that would do this for me as well as removing all the low refresh rates in order to fix the 60Hz problem in Win2K/XP. But still it was a pain to always have to edit the driver settings every time I upgraded drivers.

When I installed my new Radeon 9500Pro I was pleasantly surprised to find that 1280x960 was enabled by default!!!!!!! Finally ATI! My god what took you so long to add this proper aspect resolution to your cards? Well, needless to say I was very pleased that ATI's newer cards do support this resolution.
