I recently got a MSI 6870 and am having some awful driver issues.

Whenever I load up Furmark or Unigine Heaven the display driver crashes and recovers. Sometimes the driver will crash when I'm loading into a game of Dragon Age.

The card is running on Windows Vista 64bit, 600 watt OCZ PSU, 4gb of ram and a Phenom II X4 955. I'm using CATs 10.10e

I'm not sure what could be wrong. Are the drivers for the 6870 just borked and I'm SOL till 10.12 comes out?

Edit: Also the card works perfectly in my Windows 7 machine, but my Windows Vista machine it is a bucket of fail.

Edit2: Fixed! The problem was left over NVidia registry stuff. CC cleaner ftw. Thanks everyone!

It might be PSU issues.. and OCZ ones are known for their higher failure rate. You might want to check that first.

Hi,were you running an NVDA card on your Vista box prior to the 6870 install?
If so you'll probably need to do a full driver clean and or an OS reinstall to fix that sort of problem.

I was running an old 8800gts 320. I used driver cleaner or whatever to get rid of any left over Nvidia driver files. More cleaning is required?

The power supply is an OCZ, it is barely a year old and 600 watts. Should I be worried?

Try running the registry cleaner feature of CC.Cleaner.

ATi cards are (in)famous for problems following an NVDA card being previously installed.

Run the reg cleaner then restart your PC.
I'd reinstall the latest Catalyst drivers(10.11) after you restart then you should be good to go.
If that fails you may need to reinstall Windows.
Your PSU should be fine.

I thought cat 10.11 weren't compatible with HD 6K series?

Are you overclocking anything?

No overclocks.

I think I am using the latest drivers for the 6800 series. 10.11 doesn't support the 6800 series according to AMD's website.

I'll give the above cleaner a try. Otherwise it looks like I'll be dismantling my Win 7 machine and testing the power supply.
